We are hiring a Director, Government Affairs and Business who will be the primary liaison on business initiatives that have actual or potential intersection with government and public affairs. Specifically, this individual must foster a strong working relationship as a trusted partner who can understand key business priorities and initiatives, anticipate and identify potential political and regulatory implications, educate, advise, and counsel the business on necessary actions for compliance and identify proactive opportunities for advocacy to create a positive regulatory and political environment to support innovation.
As part of this activity, this individual will be responsible for cross-departmental coordination – including project management, management-level presentations, issue-spotting/escalation, outreach messaging, and interaction with staff at all levels and without explicit reporting relationships. This individual will support the government and public affairs team as they execute on advisable strategies associated with business and compliance initiatives. Individual must be a quick study, self-starter, flexible, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously. An ability to clearly distill business considerations for multiple audiences is critical.
Serve as government affairs key contact and trusted partner on cross-functional teams for business initiatives (i.e., new product launches, FTTH rollout, programming disputes, rate changes), ensuring government and regulatory considerations are addressed.
Proactively identify political and regulatory implications of business priorities, recommend solutions to management and execute strategies to support business objectives and ensure a positive regulatory and political environment that supports innovation.
Ensure compliance with franchise, transaction and other company obligations that intersect with the business (i.e., low income broadband, free services, access).
Develop and execute proactive communication campaigns and outreach tactics in coordination with media, legal and the government affairs field team to advance company positions on priority issues with targeted community leaders.
Coordinate responsive communications to inquiries received from community leaders.
Create timely and succinct presentations to management on key government/regulatory issues that intersect with the business.
Foster a strong and trusted working relationship with internal business units and relevant external parties.
Maintain an overall sense of the intersection of key business priorities and how individual business objectives may impact the company standing in the political and regulatory environments.
Ensure awareness of business initiatives amongst the government affairs team and ensure information for timely regulatory notifications and approvals is provided, such as with the launch of new tiers and packaging, channel change and rate change initiatives.
Act as liaison to business units to assist regulatory team by gathering information for required regulatory filings at the local, state and federal level.
Ability to effectively interact and engage with staff at all levels and solicit deliverables without explicit reporting relationships.
